Fairbank Wedding Barn Photograher | Maria & Benji’s Summer Wedding

If you’re looking for a Fairbank Wedding Barn photographer, this was one of my favourite summer weddings to shoot. Fairbank is a venue that really captures what makes the Lake District so special — open countryside, relaxed atmosphere and that unmistakable Cumbrian light that makes every moment feel timeless. It’s a place that always photographs beautifully, but it’s the people and stories that bring it to life.

Maria & Benji’s Summer Wedding at Fairbank Barn

I always love photographing weddings in the Lake District, but Fairbank Wedding Barn has its own kind of magic. Set between Kendal and Windermere, it’s one of those places that feels calm the moment you arrive. Open fields stretch out in every direction, the fells rise in the distance, and the light has that soft Cumbrian glow that makes every photograph feel timeless.

Maria and Benji have a lifelong connection with the Lakes, so Fairbank Wedding Barn was the natural choice. They spend a lot of time walking and hiking here, and wanted a wedding that reflected that part of their lives. A relaxed summer day surrounded by nature, family and friends, and of course their dog.

Morning at the Farmhouse

The day began quietly in Fairbank’s farmhouse. It’s a bright and homely space that works perfectly for wedding mornings, with big windows that fill the rooms with light. Friends and family gathered around for coffee while @loveandhairbridal and @lucy_pearson_hair_and_make_up worked upstairs. Their dog wandered between rooms, keeping everyone company.

It was such a relaxed atmosphere, full of anticipation but never rushed. Those small moments before everything begins are some of my favourites to photograph.

The Ceremony in The Shippon

Maria and Benji chose to hold their ceremony in The Shippon, Fairbank’s converted ceremony barn. It’s bright, rustic and full of character, with whitewashed walls and timber beams that catch the light beautifully. The space felt warm and personal, perfectly suited to their style.

The ceremony was full of laughter and emotion, and when their dog trotted down the aisle halfway through, it had everyone smiling. The Shippon is a wonderful space to photograph because it feels authentic and natural without needing anything extra.

Drinks and Sunshine on the Lawn

The weather couldn’t have been better. Guests spilled out onto the lawn for drinks and games, soaking up the sunshine and views of the surrounding hills. @madeinflowers created beautiful floral arrangements that matched the relaxed feel of the day.

Dinner by @food_from_the_fells was a highlight, full of local flavours and hearty dishes that brought everyone together. The whole afternoon had an easy, happy rhythm that made it a joy to capture.

Portraits by the Tarn

Later in the day we took a short trip up to Fairbank’s private tarn for portraits. It’s one of my favourite spots in the Lake District, with views that stretch across the Coniston Fells and Langdale Pikes. The evening light was perfect, soft and golden, and the calm up there gave Maria and Benji a few quiet moments together before heading back for the party.

Those portraits by the tarn are some of my favourites from the summer. The light, the stillness, and the backdrop combine to create something really special.

Dancing Into the Night

When we returned, the band @thedaddyosband had the dance floor packed from the first song. The barn was full of energy, with guests singing, dancing and laughing long into the night. Fairbank transforms beautifully once the lights go down, with the courtyard glowing and music drifting out into the fields.

It was the perfect ending to a relaxed, joy-filled day.

Why Fairbank Works So Well for Photography

Every wedding at Fairbank feels different. The light changes, the weather shifts, and every couple brings their own personality to the space. There’s room to explore, from the barns to the tarn, and always something new to see.

For Maria and Benji, it was everything they wanted: a place that felt like home, surrounded by the landscape they love most.

Tips for planning your Fairbank Wedding Barn photography

Stay on site if you can
The farmhouse accommodation makes everything easier. You can take your time getting ready, have breakfast with friends or family and wander straight outside for photos without worrying about travel. It also gives you a quiet spot to escape to later if you need a moment of calm.

Plan some time for portraits at the tarn
Don’t skip the trip up the fell. It takes around ten minutes each way and is completely worth it for the views alone. I’d recommend heading up later in the day when the light softens — it’s peaceful, private and perfect for golden hour photos.

Make the most of the light
Fairbank photographs beautifully in all conditions, but evening light here is something else. Try to build in a little flexibility so we can head out for a few minutes when the light drops; those are often the moments that make the final gallery stand out.

Be prepared for Lake District weather
The weather here changes quickly. A few umbrellas are always handy, but the barns and courtyard work brilliantly even in rain or cloud. Overcast days can actually make for softer, more flattering light, so it’s never a problem.

Use both barns
Having The Shippon separate from the main barn keeps the day flowing smoothly and gives variety in the photos. It also means your ceremony can stay set up just how you want it while the reception space stays ready for the party.

Bring your dog if they’re part of the family
Fairbank is pet friendly, and dogs always add personality and a few good laughs. Just let the venue know in advance so we can plan the day around them.

Soak up the evening atmosphere
When night falls, Fairbank feels magical. The courtyard lights up, the music echoes out into the fields, and everyone just relaxes. Try to slow down and take it in — those in-between moments often make the best memories.
