Holesfoot Wedding Photographer | Hannah & Max

If you’re looking for a Holesfoot Wedding Photographer, this was one of those unforgettable summer weddings that perfectly shows what makes the Lake District such a special place to get married. Holesfoot, hidden away in the Eden Valley near Penrith, is a venue that feels calm and full of character. The gardens stretch out across open countryside, the house has a timeless charm, and everywhere you look there’s another corner of soft light.

Hannah and Max’s wedding was filled with laughter, sunshine and one brilliant surprise that set the tone for the day.

The morning was warm and bright, perfect for an outdoor summer wedding. Hair and makeup were by @bridalbysophie, who kept everything relaxed as everyone got ready. Hannah looked amazing in her dress by @madewithlovebridal – simple, elegant and designed for movement, perfect for the gardens at Holesfoot.

The styling came together beautifully. @willowandfiginthelakes created a soft, natural look that felt completely at home in the venue, and the floral design by @honeyshideaway added colour and texture in all the right places. Together they transformed the spaces for both the ceremony and the meal, creating something that felt effortless but full of detail.

The ceremony took place in Holesfoot’s Italian Garden, one of the most beautiful outdoor settings you’ll find in Cumbria. Guests sat surrounded by manicured borders, stone archways and that golden afternoon light that makes everything look cinematic.

Then came the surprise of the day. Hannah appeared at the top of the path on horseback, riding towards the ceremony as Max and the guests turned to look. The reaction said it all – shock, joy, laughter, and maybe a few happy tears. It was one of those completely unscripted moments that you just know will stay with everyone who was there.

The ceremony itself was full of emotion and warmth, perfectly framed by the Italian Garden’s symmetry and soft summer light.

After the ceremony everyone gathered for drinks on the lawn. The space around the house is perfect for a relaxed summer reception, with open lawns and shady trees where guests can mingle, play games and chat over canapés. The flowers and styling carried through to the outdoor tables, tying everything together beautifully.

At one point Hannah found a frog, which of course had to be kissed, though she’d already found her prince charming in Max. It summed up the mood of the day perfectly – fun, spontaneous and completely natural.

@thestripedkitchen served incredible food throughout the afternoon, and the whole setting felt like something from a summer garden party. Videography by @mattjonesweddingfilms captured the atmosphere perfectly, from the laughter during speeches to the quiet moments in between.

As the sun dropped lower, we wandered through the gardens for portraits. Holesfoot is made for photography, with long lawns, soft evening light and endless backdrops. The gardens seemed to glow in the early evening and Hannah and Max were completely at ease, enjoying a few quiet minutes together before heading back to the celebrations.

When we returned, @theleggomen had the dance floor packed within minutes. The energy was incredible – singing, dancing and a party that just kept going. Holesfoot comes alive at night, with the lights strung across the courtyard and the music drifting out into the warm evening air.

Holesfoot is a dream for photography. The mix of formal gardens and open countryside gives every wedding a unique feel, and the natural light in summer is perfect all day long. The team make everything flow effortlessly, and there’s such a relaxed atmosphere that couples can truly make the place their own.

For Hannah and Max it was everything they’d hoped for – personal, joyful and full of those real, unscripted moments that tell a story.

Time your ceremony for soft light
The Italian Garden is stunning in the late afternoon when the sun sits lower and the light is warm and gentle. It makes a big difference to your ceremony photos.

Plan some time for portraits
The grounds at Holesfoot are beautiful in every direction. Take ten minutes together after the ceremony to explore a few spots quietly – those are often the most natural and genuine photos of the day.

Think about the flow of the gardens
The space works best when you move between areas. Having your drinks reception on the lawns, dinner near the house and dancing by the marquee keeps the day flowing naturally and gives lots of variety in your photos.

Embrace the weather
Cumbria can throw a bit of everything at you, but Holesfoot photographs beautifully in both sunshine and cloud. If rain appears, it only adds to the atmosphere.

Make use of the evening light
The sun sets perfectly over the gardens. If we can, we’ll sneak out for a few minutes before the first dance when the light turns golden.

Enjoy the dance floor
The space and acoustics at Holesfoot are perfect for live bands. Once the party starts, forget the camera and just enjoy it – that’s when the best shots happen.
